Inkjet-printed graphene electronics.

We demonstrate inkjet printing as a viable method for large-area fabrication of graphene devices. We produce a graphene-based ink by liquid phase exfoliation of graphite in N-methylpyrrolidone. We use it to print thin-film transistors, with mobilities up to ∼95 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), as well as transparent and conductive patterns, with ∼80% transmittance and ∼30 kΩ/□ sheet resistance. This paves th...

Graphene Nano-Ribbon Electronics

We have fabricated graphene nano-ribbon field-effect transistor devices and investigated their electrical properties as a function of ribbon width. Our experiments show that the resistivity of a ribbon increases as its width decreases, indicating the impact of edge states. Analysis of temperature dependent measurements suggests a finite quantum confinement gap opening in narrow ribbons. The ele...

Early development of graphene electronics

Graphene has recently emerged as a material likely to complement or eventually succeed silicon in electronics. From 2001 to 2004, groundbreaking research was pursued behind the scenes at Georgia Tech; various directions were explored, including exfoliation techniques and CVD growth, but epitaxial graphene on silicon carbide emerged as the most viable route. This document provides archival infor...

Guest editorial: low-power electronics and design

I N THE last decade, power dissipation has become a critical design metric for an increasingly large number of VLSI circuits. The main driving factor for this trend is the exploding market of portable electronic appliances, which calls for complex integrated systems that can be powered by lightweight batteries with long periods between recharges. Additionally, system cost must be extremely low ...

Nanoscale tunable reduction of graphene oxide for graphene electronics.

The reduced form of graphene oxide (GO) is an attractive alternative to graphene for producing large-scale flexible conductors and for creating devices that require an electronic gap. We report on a means to tune the topographical and electrical properties of reduced GO (rGO) with nanoscopic resolution by local thermal reduction of GO with a heated atomic force microscope tip. The rGO regions a...
